GOUT

Gout is a very painful type of arthritis that occurs because of the buildup and crystallization of uric acid in the body.  This uric acid buildup and subsequent crystallization leads to painfully sharp uric acid crystal being deposited throughout the body’s joints especially the big toe. Other deposits of uric acid called tophi can also form resembling lumps underneath the skin and kidney stones can also develop as the result of this condition.

For most people who are unlucky enough to get gout, the big toe is the part of the body that suffers the most.  When inflicted with gout, the big toe becomes extremely sore and sensitive sometimes even becoming warm and swollen. A gout attack at night  can be severely painful, waking the sufferer up it it occurs.

Gout occurs in four separate stages

Stage 1: Asymptomatic Hyperuricemia

No symptoms are felt in this first stage of gout in which the uric acid levels start to rise.  If the high levels of uric acid are not attended to, then  it will began to precipitate out of the blood and become crystallized in the kidneys and joints.

Stage 2: Acute gouty arthritis

Acute gout is the second stage and the stage in which gout begins to harm the body. The Uric acid levels reach a point that the blood cannot keep it in a dissolved form and it begans to crystallize and deposit itself in the joints. Pain and swelling then occurs. Attacks of acute gout generally happen in the night and can last for weeks at a time if left untreated. These attacks can then become more severe and prolonged if nothing is done about them.

Stage 3: Intercritical gout

After the attacks have subsided a person enters this third stage in which the immune system begins to stabilize itself and gets ready for more attacks from the still forming uric acid crystals.  While there are no symptoms in stage three, if a person with gout does not get help by this time, the disease becomes increasingly harder to control.

Stage 4: Chronic Gout

This is the worst and most destructive stage of the condition and one that can cause permanent damage to the joints and kidneys.  The affected joints can deteriorate, causing extreme crippling pain. In some more extreme case, this stage can even lead to kidney failure and death.

Like many other chronic conditions, gout is a disease that can build upon itself and become worse if it is not treated in its earlier stages. By noticing the early warning signs and seeing a physician, you can catch gout in its early stages and reduce the chances of having to go through the crippling latter ones.


CAUSES OF GOUT

Gout is a condition in which there is too much uric acid in the body. This uric acid then crystallizes in various joints, especially the big toe causing sharp pain. Uric acid comes from the breakdown of substances known as purines. These purines are found in numerous body tissues and in foods such as liver, anchovies, peas, and green beans.

In most cases, uric acid is broken down and dissolved in the blood, passing through the kidneys and exiting the body via urine. Uric acid can build up in the blood for several different reasons including the body naturally increasing its uric acid production, the kidneys failing to filter out the uric acid from the blood, or eating a diet that consists of food with high levels of purines.

When the blood contains high levels of uric acid, it is called hyperuricemia. Most people who develop hyperuricemia however, generally do not go on to develop gout.  Only when large amount of uric acid crystals form do people develop this condition.

  3. If you drink too much: If you drink a lot of alcohol on a regular basis then you are more likely to develop gout.

  5. If you eat foods that are high in purines. Eating too many foods like the ones mentioned above will increase the amount of uric acid in your body thus increasing your chances of getting gout.

GOUT DIET

The main goals of your diet are:
-to reduce intake of purines and normalize the purine metabolism
-to eliminate purines from your blood and tissue
-to lower uric acid in your blood

Exclude:
Foods rich in purines:
fried meat, fried fish, meaty soups, caviar, beans, cauliflower, radish,
spinach, asparagus, sorrel, tomatoes, strong tea, coffee, alcohol (especially beer and wine, vodka - very rarely).

Foods especially rich in purines:
strong tea, cacao, chocolate, coffee, spinach, mushrooms, poultry (liver,
kidneys, sweet meat), meaty and fish soups, small fish ( sprats, sardines), sausages, liverwurst, beans, yeast.

Include:
Foods extremely low or free of purines:
fruits, vegetables, nuts, cereals, sugar, honey, jam, eggs, milk, yogurt,
dairy products.

The following foods will have a diuretic effect, help to eliminate purines and improve stomach activity:
berries, bluberries, cabbage, cherries, strawberries, grapes, lemon, melon and watermelon.

Include these foods in your diet:
-Soups: vegetable soups, soups with cereals or with pasta ( no beans, peas or sorrel).
-Low fat boiled meat and fish, no more than 100 g ( 3oz) a day or 2-3 times a
week.
-Cottage cheese, yogurt, sour cream
-Eggs, swiss cheese
-Vegetable salads. Use boiled or raw vegetables.
-Fresh fruits, like apples, pears, plums, apricots, oranges, grapes, cherries
-Nuts: walnuts and hazelnuts
-Beverages: tea (not strong), tea with milk, natural juices, coffee
substitute, water, rosehip tea
-Bread: white and dark.
-Rice, millet, oatmeal, buckwheat and barley
-Fat: butter and vegetable oil
-Sauce or spices: mayonese, laurel leaves, lemon and vinegar

Drink no less than 2 L of liquid daily to dilute and assist excretion of
urates
Do not take long breaks between meals and do not starve yourself.

HOME REMEDIES FOR GOUT

Dandelion Pills: mix ground dandelion roots with honey and make small balls from the mix.

Take 2-3 balls 3 times a day. This is a great remedy for eliminating harmful salts with your sweat and urine.

It will be very helpful to drink extract made of uva ursi (bearberry) leaves ( 2 tea spoon of the leaves for 1 glass of boiling water, boil it for 10-15 minutes, cool it down, filter it and drink the whole amount during a day. ) However, some people can get Cystitis after continuous drinking of bearberry extract. That's why it is better to mix 1 part bearberry leaves, 1 part chamomile and 1 part linden flowers or 1 part cowberry leaves with 1 part raspberry leaves. Drink no more than 800 ml of the extract a day.

Apply cold raw cabbage leaves to your tender spots.

Take 1 glass of oats (not oatmeal),. add 1 L of boiling water and boil the mix until only half of it left. Filter the extract, add 2 glasses of milk and boil it again for 10  minutes. Again, filter the extract and drink 1 glass of it 3 times a day.

Very old effective remedy: take 2 table spoons of lilac flowers, add 1 glass of vodka and keep it for 1 week in a dark place. Shake the bottle regularly. Take 50 drops of the tincture 3 times a day before meals.

Tincture with agave Americana: cut off 10 leaves from an agave Americana plant, grind them and add 1 glass of vodka. Keep the bottle in a dark place for 10 days. Take 40 drops of the tincture 3 times a day before meals.

Put 50 g of sage in 3 L of boiling water and boil it for 10 minutes.Soak your tender spot in this extract for 30 minutes. Then cover it with warm clothes and go to bed. Repeat the treatment every day for 1 month. This is an excellent remedy for dissolving of gout lumps.

Take 1 table spoon of ground celery root, add 1 L of boiling water and let it sit for 8 hours. Filter the extract and drink 1/2 glass of it 3 times a day. Keep it in your refrigerator. The treatment can take up to 3 months.

Wash 11 medium size lemons, grind them (without seeds, but with the skin still on them) and add 1 kg of honey. Stir everything well and keep the mix in your refrigerator. Take 1 table spoon of the mix 3 times a day before meals.

Compresses with raw fish: Buy about 5 pounds of raw fish fillet. Divide the fillet on 10 parts, put every part in a plastic bag and keep all bags in the freezer. Every night defrost 1 bag, stick your foot inside the bag, make sure that the fillet is placed on the most painful spots, put a sock over the plastic bag and fix the bag and the sock with a band. Leave it on for a night and wash your foot in the morning with warm water. If you apply the compresses to both feet, then you would need 20 bags for a10 day treatment. The pain will go away completely.

CLEANSE YOUR JOINTS!

You can solve a lot of problems if you eliminate excess of salts from your body. Choose one of these most effective and very easy remedies:

Laurel Extract: Grind 5-6 g of laurel leaves, add 1 1/2 glass of boiling water and boil it in open pot for 5 minutes. Cover the pot and let it sit for 4 hours. Filter the extract. Drink it slowly during a day ( do not drink it  in one gulp because the substances from the extract might enlarge the blood vessels and provoke internal bleeding ). Repeat the treatment for 2 more days (3 days total), take 1 week break, repeat the treatment for 3 days and take 1 month break. Use this whole cleansing remedy once a year. Drink the extract no later than 30 minutes before meals and 1 1/2 - 2 hours after meals. It is very important to follow the directions. While you cleanse your joints, it is very helpful to take showers where you alternate hot and cold water, herbal baths or go to a sauna.
This remedy will eliminate salts from your joints and reduce inflammation and edemas. The remedy is recommended for all joint disorders. Warning: do not use it if you have stomach or duodenal ulcer.

Rice Remedy: This remedy will cleanse joints, blood and internal organs. It is the best to use wild rice (brown rice). You will need 5 glass jars. Put 2 table spoons of rice in the first jar and add 1/2 L of water. Leave it for 24 hours. Next day wash the rice from this jar with clean cold water and again add 1/2 L of cool boiled water. At the same time put 2 table spoons of rice in the second jar and add 1/2 L of cool boiled water. Do it every day and in 5 days you will have 5 jars with rice and water. On the sixth day take the rice from the first jar, add fresh water and make a hot cereal (boil it without adding salt). Eat the cereal for breakfast (on the sixth day). Do not eat or drink anything after that for 3-4 hours. Do not forget to put 2 table spoons of rice and water in this jar as soon as you use it. Continue the cleansing treatment for 40 days (you will need to prepare each jar 8 times).

Sunflower Root Extract: Reduce 1 glass of sunflower roots to fine particles with a hummer, add 3 L of boiling water and boil it on medium heat for 3 minutes. Filter the extract and cool it down. You can keep it in your refrigerator. You can boil the roots one more time, but the second time you have to boil them for 10 minutes. Drink the whole amount slowly during 2-3 days 30 minutes before meals or 2 hours after meals. The salts will be eliminated with your urine. The cleansing treatment is for 1-2 months. Use this remedy once a year.

Potato Water: This remedy will cleanse your joints, stomach and reduce the inflammation if you have arthritis. Boil potatoes with the skin still on it until it is ready (do not forget to wash the potatoes before boiling). Drink 1 glass of the water left from boiling 3 times a day: before breakfast, before lunch and before you go to bed for 2 weeks. Take a 2 week break, then repeat the treatment.
