ARNICA

Aka: Arnica Montana, European Arnica, Leopard’s Bane, Wolf’s Bane, Mountain Snuff, Mountain Tobacco

Arnica’s flowers are bright yellow and daisy like and it is called Leopard’s, or Wolf’s Bane because it is was once thought to be deadly to all animal life.  The flower of the plant has medicinal uses, and the plant itself has been used as a topical for arthritis, burns, ulcers, eczema, bruises, and muscle soreness.  Arnica can stimulate blood circulation and raise blood pressure. It can relieve pain, has anti inflammatory properties, and can help reduce swelling and discoloration.

Arnica Oil

Oil derived from the Arnica plant can be used as topical to help relive a number of problems. Bruises, Strains, sprains, and muscle soreness all can be relieved with Arnica oil. Overusing arnica on the skin can result in redness, itching, and irritation and can even develop into blisters and pustules. Handling it also might result in blistering, itching, and irritated skin. Taking oral applications of Arnica must be done so with extreme care. Severe side effects include erratic heart rhythms, a rise in blood pressure, and shortness of breath.  It can also be cause muscle paralysis and ingesting large doses can even result in death.
